Why doesn't my wallet recognise the Bitcoin address you provided?

Modified on Wed, 11 Dec, 2019 at 8:34 AM

The default Bitcoin address we provide is known as Bech32 or Native Segwit. It is recognisable as it starts with the prefix - bc1.

There are many advantages to this address format such as cheaper fees, incompatibility with other forks (so you can't accidentally send another coin there), and compatibility with the Lightning Network.

Unfortunately, not all services are compatible with sending to this address format yet, though over time this will improve.

If your wallet is having trouble with this address format, that's no problem you can set your account to only generate Bitcoin addresses that your wallet will recognise.

To do this you'll see the link under the QR code on the payment screen to try a different address.

This link will take you back to your payment details, and when you submit them this time our system will give you a  more compatible bitcoin address by default.
